ĻӰ has been listed among the leading universities in the Arab world

According to latest rankings released by the association of Arab Universities on Thursday ĻӰ was placed 134th among 180 Arab universities that were ranked.

This ranking of 2024 edition of Arab raking for universities has assessed key performance indicators include: Teaching and learning index, scientific research index, Creativity and innovation index and international outlook.

ĻӰ’s ranking among the Arab world and other rankings highlight the immense potential of Somali academic institutions as it serves a reminder, despite decades of conflict and instability in the country that the learning institutions in Somalia can compete on an international scale.

As one of Somalia’s premier institutions, ĻӰ has played a vital role in the country’s development, producing leaders, educators, and innovators who are shaping the nation’s future.

This ranking is a reflection of ĻӰ’s commitment on maintaining quality education, research, innovation and community services which has made MU a strong and prestigious higher education institution in Somalia with regional impact.

Strengthening International Collaboration: Visit from Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University

As part of the Erasmus+ K117 Teaching Mobility Program, ĻӰ had the honor of hosting Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gümüş and Ms. Cansu Dilek from Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, Faculty of Science, Mathematics, and Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering respectively. The visit aimed to foster academic collaboration, share research expertise, and explore future partnership opportunities. During their six-day stay, the guests engaged in academic presentations, interactive sessions with students, and practical workshops showcasing advanced civil engineering practices. They also held strategic meetings with university staff to discuss potential areas for joint research and academic exchange. This successful visit reflects ĻӰ’s strong commitment to internationalization and building sustainable academic networks. We look forward to deepening our collaboration with Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University through continued exchange in education, research, and innovation.

Faculty of Political Science and Public administration, Department of International Relations has co-hosted today an online lecture on: “Peace and Security in the Horn of Africa: State of Play and the Way Forward, Focusing on Somalia”

The program started with Opening Remarks by Ahmed Abdel-Latif, the Director-General of the Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), and by Fumio IWAI, Ambassador of Japan in EgyptThe guest speaker was Prof. Hideaki Shinoda, a distinguished professor at the Graduate School of Global Studies, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. This was followed by comments and questions.This event, which facilitated by the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) and the Japanese Embassy in Egypt, attended more than 50 participants.

ĻӰ launches faculty of civil aviation, the first of its kind in Somalia dedicated to civil aviation studies

ĻӰ has launched a new faculty, dedicated to civil aviation a study which is a significant milestone towards shaping Somalia’s higher education landscape. In his remarks at the launching ceremony held at Jazeera Place Hotel on Tuesday, Mr. Ismail Omar, acting president, expressed gratitude to everyone involved in establishing the new faculty, noting that “the considerable effort to establish the faculty will play a vital role in improving airport operations, air traffic management, and enhancing flight guidance and produce aviation professionals. The director general of Somali Civil aviation Authority Ahmed Moalim emphasized the pressing need for the aviation college, which aims to equip Somali students with the crucial knowledge and skills necessary for a thriving aviation sector in Somalia ĻӰ is breaking barriers, tackling aviation professionals’ shortage with a new aviation faculty this semester. The faculty of civil aviation is set to kick off classes in October 2024, bringing attention to new local education and career opportunities in the aviation industry. MU is now the only university nationwide with an aviation program.
